It is 30 minutes' drive west (49 kilometres/30 miles) of Devonport and an hour’s flight from Melbourne. You can also choose to take the ferry from Melbourne which is a comfortable 3 hour journey.

Burnie has an inviting array of business and shopping facilities both in the CBD and surrounding districts. Within walking distance of the CBD you find yourself with sand between your toes and the sound of surf lapping, and a short walk along the pathways of Burnie Park you stroll through native rainforest to a dramatic waterfall.

Job Description

Burnie Medical Centre is seeking a full-time General Practitioner to join its busy team. GPs are typically required to work approximately 36 hours per week with shared weekday and weekend roster.

Practice Infrastructure

Burnie General Practice is conveniently located in the CBD at 35 Mount Street. A newly established practice that offers both general practice and occupational health services to the Burnie community.

The practice is fully computerised and offers well equipped 3-bay treatment room, procedure room, five consult rooms, and occupational health room. The clinic is well staffed with Practice Manager, reception and nursing staff.

The clinic currently has 1 full time, 2 part time general practitioners and 1 GP registrar and we are offering three additional full time positions. The expectation is that each doctor will work nine sessions per week and share After Hours requirements including Saturday work. Weekend On Call is minimal as this is shared with another practice.

Clinic doctors also provide visiting medical services to Umina Home for the Aged and Yarandoo. This is an option available to clinic doctors.

The accredited clinic offers a mixture of private and bulk billing. Burnie is classified as RA3 – Outer Regional.

Required Skills

  • Postgraduate training and experience in general practice
  • Ideally hold Fellowship of the relevant Australian Specialist College or an equivalent qualification and be registered or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Tasmania
  • Alternatively you will be eligible for RACGP specialist traineeship and hold AMC part 1 and 2 with demonstrated 5 years of Australian equivalent full time general practitioner experience
  • Obstetrics and Anaesthetics are NOT required
